Lexical difficulty affects vowel articulation in adult cochlear implant users

چکیده

Talkers with normal hearing hyperarticulate vowels in lexically hard words (i.e., a low word frequency and high neighborhood density) relative to easy words. This difference articulation has been attributed normal-hearing talkers making listener-oriented articulatory adjustments facilitate intelligibility of their own speech. The extent which adult cochlear implant users exhibit these tendencies vowel production is unclear, part due the spectrally degraded signal delivered by implant. exposure could make less sensitive acoustic-phonetic differences between words, lead them not hyperarticulating In this study, read series isolated monosyllabic varying lexical difficulty. These hyperarticulated those consistent account speech patterns previous findings talkers. finding suggests that may be able overcome input

Development of Lexical Connectivity in Pediatric Cochlear Implant Users

The present study examined the performance of pediatric cochlear implant (CI) users on easy (high frequency words from low density neighborhoods) and hard (low frequency words from high density neighborhoods) words on the monosyllabic Lexical Neighborhood Test (LNT) and Multi-syllabic Lexical Neighborhood Test (MLNT). The easy—hard effect (the superior performance on easy words compared to hard...

Lexical-Access Ability and Cognitive Predictors of Speech Recognition in Noise in Adult Cochlear Implant Users

Not all of the variance in speech-recognition performance of cochlear implant (CI) users can be explained by biographic and auditory factors. In normal-hearing listeners, linguistic and cognitive factors determine most of speech-in-noise performance. The current study explored specifically the influence of visually measured lexical-access ability compared with other cognitive factors on speech ...

Temporal processing in postlingual adult users of cochlear implant.

INTRODUCTION Postlingual adults demonstrate impressive performance in speech recognition in silence after cochlear implant (CI) surgery. However, problems in central hearing abilities remain, which complicates understanding in certain situations, such as in competitive listening and in the perception of suprasegmental aspects of speech. OBJECTIVE To assess the temporal processing abilities in...

The recognition of clear speech by adult cochlear implant users

When talkers attempt to speak clearly in response to known perceptual difficulties on the part of the talker, they typically modify their speech patterns to include (amongst other changes) longer and more frequent inter-word pauses, slower speaking rates, less vowel reduction and more salient consonant releases. This clear speech has been shown to be cons i s t en t ly more in te l l ig ib le (...
